Dwight and Eloise Baxter (both deceased now), once shared this story. There was once a big flood when the Illinois River overflowed and covered the river bottom. They wanted to see the flood waters and knew Farwell House would be the best place to see it, however, they could not drive there on the usual route due to flooding. They then decided to approach Farwell House from the north. They said there was a road then that led through fields directly to the house. So, that’s what they did and were able to view the flooding from Farwell House lawn. I wish I could remember the date of the flood. They told me, but I have forgotten.
